Frequently Asked questions
- Will I be controlled by the Hypnotherapist? Hypnosis as seen during stage performances give the impression that the person is being controlled. The truth is during hypnosis, you are never out of control as the critical area of your mind is connected to the conscious and subconscious area and therefore you will never do something against your will. There must be some buy in and those that are easily suggestible are the ones chosen for stage hypnosis. Your comfort is of utmost importance and I will make sure you only work on the things you are ready to work on. No one will be doing the chicken dance in my office.
- Can I be hypnotized? Everyone goes in and out of hypnosis all day long. Did you ever get home from work and not remember most of the route you took? This is an example of being in a hypnotic state. At your first session you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire. This will let me know what type of suggestibility you fall under. There are 2 types- physically and emotionally suggestible. Physically suggestible people do find it easy to go into hypnosis as they appreciate direct suggestions that are related to their physical being. Emotionally suggestible people want to know why and how what I am saying will affect them and appreciate being guided rather than directed during hypnosis. Both types of people can be hypnotized and all you need to do is come to the session with a open mind.
- Is hypnosis only for the weak minded? This is the opposite of the truth as the best people for hypnosis are those who are open to experiencing the state and brighter and more creatively minded people do better.
- Will the hypnotherapist find out secrets that I don't want to share? Most people stay somewhat conscious during hypnosis and while in the state of hypnosis you are always in control. The hypnotherapist can not make you do anything or ask you to reveal anything you do not want to share. In the session, at anytime you can say "I don't want to share that right now". Unlike other talk therapies, you will not be speaking very much, if at all, during your hypnotherapy sessions. The work is done at the subconscious level.
- Will I experience negative side effects? NO you can't. Hypnosis is a very natural and completely safe process. We go into a similar relaxed state of mind many times in the day including before we go to sleep and as we wake up. The only side effects are positive ones: being healthier; feeling more joy; sleeping better; improved relationships; feeling refreshed and lighter; and so much more!
